Literary Devices

* Simile: A comparison between two things using "like" or "as."

* Personification: Giving human characteristics to an animal, object, or idea.

* Example: "The wind whispered through the trees."

* Alliteration: The repetition of the same initial consonant sound in a series of words.

* Example: "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers."

* Assonance: The repetition of the same vowel sound in a series of words.

* Example: "The cat sat on the mat."

* Consonance: The repetition of the same consonant sound in a series of words.

* Example: "She sells seashells by the seashore."

* Hyperbole: An exaggeration.

* Example: "I was so hungry, I could eat a horse."

* Understatement: A deliberately mild or restrained expression.

* Example: "It was a bit chilly outside."

* Oxymoron: A figure of speech that juxtaposes two seemingly contradictory terms.

* Example: "jumbo shrimp"

* Paradox: A statement that seems contradictory, but may in fact contain some truth.

* Example: "The more you give, the more you receive."

* Irony: A contrast between what is expected and what actually happens.
