Read for at least thirty minutes every day. The more that you read, the more extensive you vocabulary will become. Try reading different types of written work beyond novels, such as magazines, plays and the newspaper. Look up a word in the dictionary whenever you happen upon a word you don't know.
Write in a journal or diary often. Once you learn a word, make an effort to use it in your writing. Have a section in your journal where you write down every new word you learn. Whenever you're writing, refer to this list and use the words where they make sense. Over time, you will begin to use these words in your writing automatically.
Purchase a word-a-day calendar and hang it in a place where you will see it every day. Memorize the meaning of a word every day using this calendar. Make an effort to use this word frequently when writing and during conversations.
Play online vocabulary games, puzzles and board games, such as Boggle and Scrabble. These games will help you learn new words, how they are spelled and their meanings.
Learn words that actually have meaning to you, such as trade language. Do you own a business? Study words that business people often use. You are more likely to learn words that are relevant to something you are passionate about.
