Read more often. Reading a book, magazine or newspaper is an easy way to improve your vocabulary. Not only do you pick up a finer speech through reading well written and edited words but you can also discover new ones. Every time you find a word you do not know, highlight or write it down on a piece of paper. Later look up all the words you jotted down in a dictionary.
Play games like crosswords or word searches from your daily newspaper. These activate certain parts of your brain and help keep your mind fit. Filling out a daily crossword helps you learn new words as well as find different ways of writing words you already know.
Look up a daily word in the dictionary. Open to a random page and read five definitions on that page. Make this a daily habit and try to use at least one word you learned during the course of your day.
