How to Tell Colors Activity Sheets for Preschoolers

One of the many exciting lessons learned in preschool is how to tell colors. Provide your preschoolers with creative, hands-on activity sheets that allow them to practice their color naming skills. Combine the activity sheets with other color activities like sorting games and scavenger hunts to further excite the preschoolers about their growing knowledge.

Instructions

    • 1

Create activity sheets for single color first. Begin with basic primary colors like red, yellow and blue. The activity sheet should have the color word clearly printed and contain easy-to-color pictures of items commonly associated with the color. For example, an activity sheet for yellow could include the sun, a baby chick, a sunflower and a banana. Alternatively, see the Resources for already created activity sheets.

Use activity sheets that can be turned into a matching game. Design a worksheet that is divided into six sections to cut apart and place a colorable item in each section. Each section should have a match. An activity sheet with two hearts to color red, two monkeys to color brown and two turtles to color green creates a matching game that can be used over and over again.

Make a template activity sheet that can be used to create a book. Decide on a basic shape like a crayon, car, hat or book. On each page write text for a certain color—“I like blue,” “I like green,” “I like orange.” Students will color each page accordingly, cut out and attach the color activity pages to make their own book that they can easily read. See the Resources for premade templates.
