Activity Sheets for Matching Colors

Young children who are learning about colors should be provided with different learning opportunities to master this skill. Fun-filled matching colors activity sheets are good reinforcement for students to work at their own pace. Below are colorful activity sheets available for printing, with the added bonus of age-appropriate worksheets along with the matching color theme.
  1. Cut, Paste, Match

    • Two activity sheets from Abcteach.com are excellent for early readers learning about colors. This activity also provides students the opportunity to practice their cutting and pasting skills. Provide students with scissors and glue sticks before you begin this activity. Print out two pages, one in color and the other in black and white. Instruct children to cut out the color squares and glue them onto the matching color word on the black and white page.

    Matching Colors with Words

    • Another good activity sheet, also from Abcteach.com, is matching colored squares to the correct color word. This is a quick printout for young learners to complete on their own. Instruct students to draw lines connecting the correct color word to the correct colored square. This activity gauges students' ability to correctly match colors and read words. This sheet could also be an appropriate activity for students to complete as a homework assignment.

    Matching Colors with Numbers

    • The First-School website has a multitude of activity sheets for matching colors available to print. These activities come with instructions as well. One activity sheet that would be suitable for preschoolers or kindergartners is a fishbowl craft. Students not only work on their numbers, but match colors as well. Children will enjoy tracing numbers, coloring the fish and cutting and pasting the fish into the fish bowl.

    Matching Colors with Pictures

    • Another quality activity sheet for children learning to match colors comes from Kidslearningstation.com. Students will like matching the correct color word with the correct color picture. For example, students will draw a line to connect the color word "yellow" to a bunch of bananas. This sheet is a terrific, quick, reinforcement activity for children to compete individually. Students who are still learning to read words may need extra assistance.
