How to Start a Home Child Care Business in Georgia

In 2009, the state of Georgia changed laws regarding requirements for those wishing to start a child care business in their home. Child care in the home is termed Family Day Care Home providers, or FDCH. Georgia law, as of 2009, requires anyone wishing to start a FDCH show proof of an education in childhood development, early childhood education, or a Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate. The National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education defines FDCH as a business in a privately-owned home that operates less than 24 hours per day and provides care for three children, but not more than six.
