Fun Preschool Art Projects

Provide art experiences for preschoolers to help with their hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and satisfy natural curiosity. Preschoolers can receive these benefits working with fingerpaint, edible clay and bubble printing. All three provide just enough mess to keep it fun for the kids, while not being difficult to clean up with a little preparation. Consider laying out a plastic table cloth on the table, as well placing one on the floor to catch extra drips.
  1. Finger Painting

    • Finger painting is a fun preschool art activity that can be successfully executed with a little preparation. After laying out the plastic table cloths on both the table and the floor, put old clothes on your preschooler and mix up this homemade fingerpaint. You will need a quarter-cup liquid laundry starch and food coloring or one teaspoon of tempera paint. Mix together. Store in airtight containers. Kids enjoy the texture of this paint. Add a drop of dishwashing soap to make clean-up easier.

    Edible Clay

    • Prepare a batch of edible clay for a special project. Preschoolers can make flowers, animals or car shapes and then share with a friend. You will need one cup of peanut butter, one cup of corn syrup, one cup of powdered sugar and three cups of powdered milk. Blend in a mixer and then knead until smooth.

Children can use this clay with cookie cutters or just build with. Wash the child's hands before using. if they decide to use modeling clay utensils, be sure to have them perfectly clean. Boiling these items ahead of time will ensure their cleanliness.

    Bubble Prints

    • Blowing bubbles is fun. Capturing bubbles on a piece of paper is even better. You will need pans with bubble solution, one for each color used and food coloring, clean straws and white paper. Put a few drops of food coloring into each pan. Show the preschooler how to use a straw to blow air into a pan to make the bubbles grow. Place a piece of white paper on top, pressing right down on the bubbles. Take the same paper from pan to pan to gather impressions of different colored bubbles.
