Preschool Art Projects: Bears

The imaginations of children who are in preschool are often stimulated by art projects. This form of hands-on learning can aid in the development of motor skills while encouraging creativity. Teach your child in preschool about bears by incorporating an art project as part of the lesson. There are a number of projects to choose from that use different materials.
  1. Toilet Paper Roll Bear

    • Turn rolls of toilet paper into bears that preschool children can take home to play with. Make a black and white template of a bear's face, hands and arms on a piece of paper to give to each child. Pass out crayons or paint and instruct the children to color the template. You may opt for adults to cut out the bear templates or allow the children to try their hands at it. Either paint the toilet paper rolls in advance or let the preschoolers complete the task. Glue the hands, arms and head onto the appropriate spots on the toilet paper roll. Include a pot of honey on the template that the bear can hold.

    Circle Bear

    • Teach your preschooler about circles while creating a cute bear. Give her one large circle, one medium and six small circles to trace onto brown construction paper. Tracing the circles gives her repetitive practice on drawing the shapes. Cut out the circles. Use the large circle for the body, the medium for the head and the small ones for the ears, arms and legs. Glue them together to form the bear. Draw on features like eyes, snout and mouth using a black crayon.

    Clay Bear

    • Make a bear out of clay. Preschoolers should enjoy the texture as they work in this three-dimensional medium. You can use modeling clay, play dough, regular clay or create your own using a dough recipe.

Make the head first using a large round ball. Add the muzzle, nose and ears with smaller round or oval balls. Poke small holes in the clay for the eyes.

To make the body, roll an oval shape longer than the head. Roll clay logs and attach to the body for the arms and legs. Once the clay is dry, the preschoolers can paint the bear and add details.
