Kindersay has a number of activities for all areas of learning. In the "words" section, which would be most appropriate for preschool English activities, parents and instructors select which category they would like the students to study. Selections include adventure, animals, movement, food, parts of the body, outdoor, tools, colors, shapes, transport and more.
For example, in the animals section, students click on pictures of many different types of animals such as a cat, cow, or deer. When they click on the picture, both the picture and spelling of the animal appear on the screen. Therefore, the child sees how to spell the name of the animal of his selection. Constant practice with this activity helps children associate a certain animal with certain letter patterns.
Games entice children because they recognize that they are able to have fun while learning. Even though preschoolers may know the alphabet, some have trouble with alphabetical order. In order to develop academically in that area, students can play alphabet Whack-A-Mole, where moles with different letters appear. Children have to click on the moles in alphabetical order. They can also alphabetize months and colors in the same section on the website, which helps them to learn more about these two subject areas as well.
At Starfall, parents select from four different stages of learning. For preschoolers who need further assistance with the alphabet, Starfall offers the "Let's Get Ready to Read!" program, which includes visual and verbal representations of upper and lower case letters. The next three steps are "Learn to Read," "It's Fun to Read" and "I'm Reading." Stories include kid-friendly titles like "Zac the Rat" and "Peg the Hen."
