Computer Grants for Preschool Programs

Computers and other forms of technology can help make classroom instruction more engaging for students. For preschool students, computers can be used to help children learn to read and how to navigate the technology that they will be surrounded with as they continue through school. A limited number of grants are available to provide computers and software to enhance learning for preschool students.
  1. Qwest Teachers and Technology Mini-Grant

    • Pre-kindergarten teachers in Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, and 12 other states can apply for a mini-grant from Qwest. Applicants must teach in an eligible school district and have at least three years of teaching experience. Grants are awarded in the amount of $5,000 and must be used to promote the integration of technology in the classroom. This can include purchasing computers or other hardware and software for use in the classroom.

    Computers for Learning

    • The U.S. General Services Administration provides used computers to preschool and pre-kindergarten programs. Refurbished government computers and peripheral equipment are provided to programs at no charge, based on availability. Programs must have non-profit status and are required to pay for the shipping of the computers. Applications for the program are available online and applicants can see what equipment is available when they apply.

    The Raymond John Wean Foundation

    • Preschool programs in the Mahoning Valley in Ohio can apply for an Early Childhood Development Grant from the Raymond John Wean Foundation. Grants are awarded in amounts from $1,000 to $5,000 and can be used to purchase materials to increase the quality of early education programs and improve the skills of children in the program. This includes purchasing computer equipment and software to provide extra learning opportunities for students. Grant applications are reviewed four times a year.

    The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation

    • Preschools in select counties in New York and Massachusetts can apply for preschool curriculum grants from the The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation. The program provides a list of acceptable curricula, including some programs that include computer software. The goal of the grant is to improve academic and socio-emotional curriculum in preschools. Grants are worth approximately $50,000 and are funded over two to three years. Applicants must submit a pre-application before submitting a full proposal.
