Divide a 5" x 8" index card into eight 2" x 2" squares, leaving a 1" x 8" tab at one side of the card. Repeat this step with four more index cards.
Draw, inside the squares, pictures of items that you are likely to see on the road. For example, if you will be driving through a mix of rural and urban settings, then you are likely to see things like stop signs, cows, tall buildings, goats, barns, bridges, and so on. It is OK to repeat images, but not on the same card.
Label each box with the name of the image you drew in it. For example, if there is a picture of a cow in one box, then write the word “cow” in that box.
Color in the images using colored pencils or markers. Have your kids help out.
Laminate each card with clear tape. Completely cover both sides of the index card with the tape.
Cut off any excess tape using scissors. Pack the cards, along with five whiteboard markers, for the trip.
Hand one index card and one whiteboard marker to each passenger in the car. Whenever someone sees one of the items pictured on the cards, he has to call it out loud enough for everyone to hear. Anyone who has the item on their card must cross it off with the whiteboard marker. The first person to cross off all of the items yells “Bingo!” and wins the round. After each round, wipe each card clean with a damp rag, redistribute the cards, and play again.
