What Are the Resource Files for CDA?

Child Development Associates (CDAs) work with younger children. They can work with parents, children and others to help children develop physically, socially and intellectually. CDAs are credentialed. As part of the process, CDAs must submit a resource file, a collection of documents and writing by the applicant, to the National CDA council. The CDA resource file consists of four parts: autobiography, documentation, goal statement and resources.
  1. Autobiography

    • Write a brief autobiography (between 300 and 600 words) that tells why you want to work with younger children.

    Documentation

    • This section is essentially the resume portion of the resource file. It contains the documentation for your required CDA training and work experience. You need 120 hours of training and 480 hours of work experience.

    Goal Statements

    • Write six statements describing your goals for the CDA. These goals should show how you work with children and how you plan to use these goals in your daily interactions with children. This section should be between 250 and 500 words.

    Resources

    • In this section, you should list the resource items the National CDA Council requests. Resource items vary widely. Some are the names and contact information for child abuse and children's nutrition agencies and hospitals. Others are the names of children's books that cover a variety of topics including diversity, reproduction and family matters. Finally, the list includes proof of membership in early-childhood education groups.
