Build five finger puppet monkeys to use while reciting "Five Little Monkeys." Wrap a rectangle of brown construction paper around each finger, using a small piece of tape to secure. Draw a monkey face on each or cut out a monkey image to attach to the puppet.
Practice motor skills during the reciting of the "Five Little Monkey" poem. Have children pretend to be monkeys. They can act out the story, jump around, fall down and pretend to bump their head. Encourage them to make monkey noises and mannerisms while doing it. You can also have the children count backward with you for practice.
Set out supplies for making monkey snacks. Give the children a banana, peanut butter and chocolate chips along with a plastic knife on a paper plate. They can peel their banana and then cut it into bite-size slices. Top with the peanut butter and chocolates.
Make monkey masks to wear during story time or while practicing monkey exercises. Draw a monkey face on a paper plate.Cut out large eye holes and a small mouth area. Use brown construction paper to cut out ears and then tape on the sides of the face. Poke two holes into the sides and string a piece of elastic through. Tie on the head of the child.
