Samson & Delilah Preschool Activities

Before his birth, a man of God told his mother that Samson was a Nazirite of God. God ordained Samson to be a Nazirite from the time Samson was in his mother's womb until his death. Because he was a Nazirite, Samson could not cut his hair. Samson's strength from God was in his hair. Samson's weakness for Delilah caused him to disobey God. Because he was disobedient, the Spirit of the Lord left Samson.
  1. Samson's Confidence in God

    • Samson knew that as long as he did not cut his hair, God would give him strength to win over the enemy. When Delilah tied him up with a rope, before cutting his hair, Samson knew he would be able to break free. He had confidence that his strength came from God. Have the children trace their hands on a piece of paper. In the pair of hands, have the children write or draw the things that God keeps safe. For example, the children may draw their family. This shows that the child has confidence that God keeps families safe.

    Samson's Unfaithfulness

    • In the 16th chapter of Judges, Samson's weakness for Delilah causes him to expose his secret source of strength to the enemy. Delilah tricked him and cut his hair. After shaving his head, Samson was weak. Because he was weak, he was unable to escape the enemy. Give each child seven pieces of yarn. Braid the yarn together. Have the children pull the yarn on each side and try to pull the yarn apart. The children will find it is hard to pull the yarn apart. The strength of the yarn represents man's strength when in the will of God. Cut six pieces of the yarn in the middle. Have the children pull the yarn apart. The children will find it is easier to pull the yarn apart. The cut yarn represents the strength of man when outside the will of God.

    God's Faithfulness

    • Immediately after shaving Samson's hair, it began to grow back. While dying, Samson asked God for enough strength to seek revenge on the Philistines for taking his sight from him. God granted his request. At the time of his death, Samson killed more enemies than he killed while he was alive. This shows God's faithfulness to restore and grant requests even when the children of God are disobedient to him. Have a discussion with the children. Have them tell of a time they received a present even after misbehaving. An example would be a time the child received a piece of candy even after refusing to clean up his toys. Explain to them that, just as their parents still love them after they are disobedient, God still loves Samson after being disobedient.
