Enjoy eating fruits and vegetables that are yellow. Bring a yellow bell pepper, yellow squash, corn on the cob, a pineapple, some lemons and bananas to class. Show the foods to your students to see how many of the foods they recognize. Discuss how the fruits and vegetables have the same color but not the same shape. Ask students to help you wash the foods; then cut them into bite-sized pieces for students to taste.
During your unit on the color yellow, talk with students about school buses. Teach students the song "The Wheels on the Bus," and show them how to move their hands in circles in front of their bodies like bus wheels. Make a bus for students to play inside in the play area by painting a large empty box yellow. Cut out windows and glue circles cut from black construction paper for wheels.
Make a sunshine craft to celebrate the color yellow. Give each student a large circle cut from white card stock and yellow finger paint. Encourage students to color the circle yellow. Cut yellow triangles from construction paper. When the paint is dry, show students how to glue the triangles to the outside of the circle to make the sun's rays. To finish the project, help students draw a face on the sun and attach wiggly eyes.
Teach students about ducks during your unit on the color yellow. Teach students the song "Five Little Ducks." Show students how to move their arms like wings and walk like a duck. Encourage students to make quacking sounds like a duck. Fill a water table or large plastic tub with water and yellow plastic ducks for students to play with.
