How to Make Your Own All About Me Book in Preschool

When children start preschool, they begin to become more aware of their likes and dislikes. They are learning what it is like to be an individual, and that they are different in some ways from other students, but similar in other ways. One way preschool teachers can encourage children to be themselves is to have them create a book entitled "All About Me."

Instructions

    • 1

Give each preschooler 10 sheets of paper. Punch three holes down the side for the children and have them tie a piece of yarn around each hole to create their own book.

    • 2

Instruct the preschoolers to copy the words "All About Me" on the front of the book, and to write their own name below the words.

    • 3

Tell the children to open to the first page of their books and draw or color a self portrait. If the students brought in a picture of themselves, they can use that instead and paste it on the first page. If the preschoolers are also learning about their bodies, they can label the body parts in the picture. The eyes, ears, nose, hair, neck and arms will all most likely be visible.

    • 4

Turn to the next page and ask the preschoolers to create a list of their friends. They may need help spelling their friends' names. If they can't spell at all, just have them draw a picture of each friend. Flip to the next page and do the same thing with the child's family members.

    • 5

Tell the preschoolers to use the next few pages to list their favorite things. This could be favorite animals, toys, games and activities. Encourage the children to draw pictures of themselves with their favorite things, or participating in their favorite activities. For example, the child may draw himself playing soccer or opening Christmas presents on Christmas morning.
