Preschool Christmas Activity Books

Incorporating a Christmas-themed activity book into a winter lesson plan will help the students to learn organization as well as educational concepts (such as shape recognition) in an enjoyable and entertaining manner. Set aside time every day to work on one activity page to help foster a feeling of pride in completing a lengthy project when the students finish up the last activity. An ongoing project will help the students learn to tackle projects one step at a time and with patience and care.
  1. Christmas Tree Decorations

    • Create a page in the activity book that displays an outline of a large Christmas tree filling the page. Tell the students to color in the tree. As they do, pass out ornament stencils and construction paper to each student. Instruct the students to trace and cut out the shapes and glue them onto the tree. Distribute Christmas-themed stickers that the students can use to further decorate the tree.

    Presents Wish List

    • Include a page in the activity book with a picture of a fireplace, Santa Claus and, next to Santa, an open sack. Instruct the students to draw pictures of what they want for Christmas inside and around the sack on the page. Once everyone has drawn what they want for Christmas, have the students present their page and talk about why they want the gifts they chose to draw.

    Identifying Shapes

    • Prepare a page for the activity book that shows a variety of shapes, such as a triangle, a circle, a square and a rectangle. Have the children brainstorm as to what those shapes could represent in relation to Christmas. Once everyone has an idea for each shape, instruct them to decorate the shapes to resemble Christmas imagery. You may want to include a page with a Christmas scene opposite from this activity page where the students can look for ideas and inspiration. For example, the circle could become a Christmas wreath or an ornament, a triangle forms a Christmas tree, a square turns into a present and a rectangle becomes Santa's sleigh.

    Find the Candy Cane

    • Create a page in the activity book that displays a festive Christmas scene, such as a family opening gifts around a Christmas tree, Santa flying in his sleigh over a city, or a couple taking a sleigh ride through town. Incorporate candy canes of varying sizes into the picture. Instruct the students to find and circle as many of the candy canes as they can find hidden in the scene. Award the students with a piece of candy (or other token prize) for every candy cane they find.
