Free Counting Games

Children are learning to count at early ages, and are using the Internet more frequently as a learning tool. The Internet has plenty of free counting games readily available 24 hours a day. Whether counting the quantity of an item, or doing basic addition and subtraction problems, children can play games and learn at the same time.

    • Children can play numerous counting games on SoftSchool.com. Teachers and parents can select the counting level, from counting up to three to counting up to 100. A variety of items pop on the screen, children must type the correct answer in the box and press the "submit" box. Children get 100 points for every correct answer. The "Rabbit Counting Game" requires children to place the correct items in a basket by clicking the items with a mouse.

    Primary Games

    • Primary Games offers a variety of online games for children learning to count. The object of the "Fishy Count?" game is to count the number of fish swimming and click on the shell that displays the correct number from the three available choices. "Add 'em Up" is a game that displays 10 addition questions. Children add two numbers together and need to select the box with the correct answer. The game "Take it Away" requires children to solve easy subtraction problems and click on the box with the correct answer.

    Learning Planet

    • Learning Planet features the "Count Chickens" game. The purpose of the game is to count the various animals on the screen. Children need to press the correct square box at the bottom of the screen. Another game on Learning Planet is the "Number Train." Children connect the numbered train cars together and then click on one of the numbered cars. Then, they count the number of objects when it appears on the outside of the train cars.

    • ABC.net offers numerous free counting games. "Game 1" requires children to ensure that the split wooden fence has the same amount of animals on each side. For example, if the fence has four horses, children must move two horses to the other side by double-clicking the horses. They then hit "check number" when both side have the same amount of horses. Another game is "Game 3," which has an easy and hard level. The easy game requires children to count the number of items and type the answer in the box. The hard game requires children to count the objects in the picture that look the same as the objects in the "count box."
