Encourage children to dress as pirates one day when they come to school, as they will be searching for treasure using a treasure map. Or you can help them make black hats out of construction paper and give them eye patches. Hide a treasure chest full of treats for each student, and make a treasure map of the classroom. Keep the map basic, and include basic areas, such as the teacher's desk, closets, doors and other classroom structures the kids will recognize. Place an X where the treasure is hidden. Since the group is small, give them only one copy of the map, and have them work together to find the treasure chest.
Pre-K children are working on balance and listening skills. A small group of children can play a circle game that helps them mimic each other. Tape a circle onto the floor using masking, painter's or duct tape. Ask children to stand on the line, and act as their leader. Encourage them to follow you on the circle and to not step off the circle. Once they understand the activity, you can ask one of the students to be the leader. He can choose any movement he would like, such as walking on tiptoes or crawling like a bear, and have children follow him.
Pre-K children are still learning about how games work and understanding the idea of winners and losers. For a musical activity, have them play a game of no-lose musical chairs. Set up chairs in a circle, as many chairs as there are students. Play music, and have them circle the chairs. Stop the music, and have each student find a chair. Students will love having to find a chair and running to sit in one when the music stops.
Give children several newspaper ads that have coupons in them. Using safety scissors, the children should try to cut out coupons as accurately as they can. Ask them stay on the dotted or straight lines while they cut. Then when they are all done, they can work with their group members to place coupons that look alike in one stack. For this activity, try to find several of the same coupon leaflets so that students can easily make matches. If you do not have coupons available, see Resources for templates of shapes to trace.
