Help develop a child's hand-eye coordination and skills related to dexterity with an art project. Give three and four year old children crayons so that they can draw lines and shapes. Five year olds can develop dexterity skills and use crayons to learn their numbers and letters.
Another teaching activity to consider is one that helps children recognize shapes. Very young children generally benefit from being able to touch shapes to help them remember the shape in future. You may want to devise a game that allows children to guess what a shape is. For instance, a game that includes a grab bag full of various shapes or objects can be a lot of fun for children to play while at the same time teaching them how to recognize the shapes and objects in the bag.
Storytelling that helps demonstrate basic concepts can be another method for teaching pre-k children. If you want to teach children to ask adult for help or about things they shouldn't touch, telling a story can be an effective way to explain why it is important to follow the lesson. You may want to use a storybook to illustrate your points, or large story cards, so that an your whole class can see the story.
