How to Teach Preschoolers to Love Others

One way children learn is through imitation. Eavesdrop on a group of children during dramatic playtime and you'll witness them behaving like adults. One child may be going off to work and another is going shopping. One study shows that toddlers watch interactions and learn how to respond in similar situations. Just as preschoolers imitate adult activity, they can learn how to love others by observing the behaviors of others.

Instructions

Demonstrate loving behavior toward the preschoolers. Spend time with them and listen to them. Encourage them and empathise with them. Forgive their errors and applaud their achievements. Show them through your actions how to properly deal with conflict. Be available to help them.

Involve the preschoolers' parents, as children are influenced by their parents. Ask the parents to let their children witness them showing love to family members and friends. Ask them to let their child see them forgiving, helping and caring about others.

    • 3

Involve your preschoolers in doing community service or volunteer work. Let them help make care packages for soldiers and help you send them to the soldiers. If your school goes on field trips, take them with you to spend time with senior citizens in a nursing home. Have them sort through old toys or purchase new toys to donate to a homeless shelter.

Read books to preschoolers that give examples of loving behavior. Let them talk about the characters' actions. Ask them to give examples of when they've behaved lovingly like the characters.
