Talk to your students about colors first. Ask each student what his favorite color is and why. Once the discussion is over, introduce your students to different colors.
Using different colored chalks, write the names of colors you're teaching on your chalkboard in their corresponding colors. For pre-K students, stick with simple colors, like primary colors and popular colors such as pink, purple and green. To start, simply point to each color and tell the students the name of the color.
Place different colored objects around the room like an orange basketball, a yellow star, a blue bird, a red, yellow and green stop light or any other common object to which your students will be exposed. Point to each object and have your students tell you what color they are.
Hand out crayons to each student along with blank coloring sheets that feature the same objects as Step 3. Have each student color the objects using the correct crayon colors.
Create your own colored flash cards. Purchase colored construction paper, and cut them into small 3-by-5-inch rectangles. Write on one side of the paper the correct name of the color. Then on blank white 3-by-5-inch index cards write the names of colors in their corresponding crayon colors. Use the different flash cards to quiz your students on color identification.
Play your students songs that teach about colors. They will enjoy singing along with them while learning about colors.
