Use your SMART Board during your "morning meeting" with students to review days of the week and weather. The "Morning Calendar" is a download package that allows you to review the days of the week right on the SMART Board. Students can place the date into its correct position by dragging the number onto the appropriate day of the week. The "Weather, What do I Wear?" application allows students to dress up a bear according to the weather report for the day.
Allow students to participate in a daily attendance activity. Using the download package titled "Classroom Attendance Ideas" from SMART Exchange, have students find their names and drag them into the "present" area of the screen each day as they enter the room. The download features many different shapes and objects to help students identify their names, many of which are seasonally appropriate -- hearts in February, for instance, and bats in October. This activity is a great way to give students practice with recognizing their names.
Instead of telling a story by flipping through pages of a book, you can read to your students using your classroom's SMART Board. There are many pre-made stories that are available to download such as "The Three Little Pigs," "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" and "Little Red Hen." Each story includes pictures as well as text. The big screen of the SMART Board allows all students to easily view the pictures and visualize what the story is about.
Download the SMART Board activity called "Learning Colors" to teach your Pre-K students about the different colors and their properties. In this activity, students will answer questions and match colors with their appropriate item. For example, a pictures of an apple will be shown and students will have to be able to identify an apple as red. Students can need to drag the appropriate colors to the center of the screen in order to answer the questions.
