CMTENY's Infant and Toddler program was the first one of its kind to emerge in the United States. Students obtaining a certification in the Infant and Toddler program concentrate on learning to prepare a prime learning environment for the infant and toddler. In these courses, students learn subjects such as Montessori philosophy, which covers Maria Montessori's explanation of the Montessori method. Other topics include communication, health and personal growth, among others. CMTENY has access to a live Montessori classroom that is available for observation.
The Assistants to Infancy program at TMI Denver trains students for child education even before the child is born. Students learn about obstetrics and how to care for the mother during childbirth as well as the child, himself, after the birth. Students create environments that encourage responsive behaviors from the infant or toddler. Students study the development of young children, covering topics such as health, obstetrics, hygiene, physiology of reproduction and more. The course also includes a summer of student teaching in an infant community.
Montessori students in the Montessori Institute Northwest's Assistants to Infancy course learn the complex Montessori theory and how to practice it with parents in the home as well as children in the classroom. Learning child development is key to the Montessori method, therefore MIN students are instructed in sensory-motor as well as language development. It can also be used as a supplement for teachers with degrees in Early Childhood Education.
This Montessori teacher training for infants and toddlers allows students to do their coursework from home while they keep a day job. The course is mailed to the student's home and is completed by studying manuals with titles such as Dr. Montessori and the Montessori Method, Growth and Development, and Preparing the Montessori Environment, among others. The student will have an in-depth study, training her in the area of cognitive, motor and sensory development.
