Bonfire Craft Ideas for the Foundation Stage

The "Foundation Stage" in the United Kingdom is the pre-school level of child development, typically involving children between ages four and five. The early years of education in the Foundation Stage follow a structured curriculum. This curriculum includes a lot of educational activities and themed crafts, often relating to national holidays and celebrations, such as Bonfire Night. Bonfire Night commemorates with bonfires and fireworks the failed plot involving Guy Fawkes to assassinate King James I in 1605.
  1. Tissue Bonfire

    • Make a tissue paper bonfire. Crinkle yellow, red, orange and brown tissue paper or crepe paper. Cut pieces of paper so that they are approximately 8-10 centimeters long. Place a piece of brown paper horizontally at the bottom of the page to resemble the ground. Arrange the pieces of paper onto a piece of card stock or poster board so that they resemble the flames of a bonfire. Glue the pieces to the paper.

    Sparklers

    • Make a sparkler craft. Dip the end of an un-sharpened pencil into white glue. Wrap the ends of sparkly pipe cleaners around the pencil end. Let the glue dry. Bend the pipe cleaners into desired shape for a fun, festive sparkler. Add star sequins or other confetti to the ends of pipe cleaners with a dab of glue.

    Fingerpainting

    • Finger paint a bonfire. Create one, big class painting or have each student paint her own image. Simply use red, yellow and orange finger paint to depict the flames of the bonfire. Sprinkle gold glitter onto the paint before it dries to add an extra sparkle to the picture.

    Edible Sparklers

    • For a delicious bonfire-themed craft, prepare edible sparklers. Dip one end of a pretzel rod into melted chocolate and place the rod on a piece of wax or non-stick paper. Sprinkle rainbow jimmies or sugar crystals to the chocolate to resemble colorful sparkles. Let the chocolate harden and then eat.
