Let students dig in the dirt like bulldozers. Fill a sensory table or large tub with dirt or sand. Bury objects in the sand, such as small plastic toys or marbles. Give students plastic shovels or spoons and invite them to dig in the dirt like a bulldozer and collect the buried items. Encourage students to try different methods for moving the sand or dirt, such using their hands to dig or push.
Create a construction area in the dramatic play center. Add props such as tool belts, caution cones, construction hats, and bulldozer and dump truck toys. To create a bulldozer for pretend play, place two chairs side by side, with a large rectangular basket in front. Encourage students to fill the basket and then sit in the chairs and pretend to drive the bulldozer to their desired location. Alternatively, cut holes in large boxes and let students pretend they're bulldozers.
Use construction paper to make bulldozers. Create a simple bulldozer shape from yellow construction paper by cutting one large and one medium rectangle to make its body, and one crescent-shaped piece for its shovel. In addition, cut a small white square to make a window. Give students the shapes and help them glue them onto a piece of construction paper to create a bulldozer. Next, invite students to draw their face in the window, and use crayons or markers to add buildings, dirt or other details to their construction site.
Create a construction site for your students using blocks and toy bulldozers. Set out stacks of blocks in one corner of the room. Ask students to use the blocks to create buildings and towers. Show students how to load blocks into the bucket of the bulldozer and then transport them to another area of the classroom, or knock down towers.
