Jonah Craft for Toddlers

The story of Jonah is one of the most famous Bible stories that kids hear about in their homes and at Sunday school. The story is about a man named Jonah who tried to disobey God. In return, a large fish swallowed Jonah, who was stuck in the fish’s stomach for several days. God spared his life, however, and the fish eventually spit Jonah out. This story teaches children about the importance of obeying God and also about God’s willingness to forgive.
  1. Construction Paper Fish

    • Cut large fish out of construction paper. Let the children decorate it with sequins, crayons and markers. Attach googly eyes to it and let the children draw a picture of Jonah stuck in fish's belly.

    Paper Plate Craft

    • Give each child two paper plates. Have the children draw a picture of a big fish swimming in water with Jonah swimming next to the fish. Take the other paper plate and cut out the inside, leaving only the rim. Place a piece of blue cellophane between the rim of the plate and the picture the child drew. Staple the plates together and let the children color the rim of the second plate whatever color they choose.

    Paper Bag Craft

    • Make a Jonah craft with toddlers by using a paper lunch bag, crayons, string and newspaper. Crumple up newspaper and stuff the bags about half full. Tie a string around the bag and set it sideways with the filled part on the left side. Take the empty side of the bag and fan it out to look like a tail. Draw a face on the other part of the bag to make it look like a fish.

    Coffee Filter Fish Craft

    • Give each toddler a coffee filter and markers. Flatten out the filters and let the children color various colors on them. When finished, wet the coffee filters using a spray water bottle; let them dry completely. Once the filters are dry, help the children cut them into fish shapes. Let them glue on wiggly eyes and decorate the face with markers.
