How to Convert MilliTesla Into Tesla

The tesla, named for Serbian-American electrical engineer Nikola Tesla, measures the flux density of magnetic fields. The tesla, abbreviated "T," was standardized in 1958. Different orders of magnitude of flux density can be measured with different metric prefixes. For example, the prefix "milli" represents 0.001, which means it takes 1,000 millitesla to equal 1 tesla. If you want to compare flux densities but one is recorded in millitesla and the other is in tesla, you need to convert one of the measurements.

Divide the number of millitesla by 1,000 to convert to tesla. For example, if you have 12,000 millitesla, divide 12,000 by 1,000 to get 12 T.

You also can multiply the number of millitesla by 0.001 to convert to tesla. In the previous example, multiply 12,000 by 0.001 to get 12 T.
