Add the percentage of your final grade your other assignments account for to your midterm percentage to find the part of your grade accounted for after your midterm. For example, if you had two projects that account for 10 percent of your grade each and your midterm accounts for 30 percent, after your midterm, you would have accounted for 50 percent of your grade.
Divide the percentage of your grade based on the midterm by the percent of the grade account to find the portion of your grade the midterm accounts for. In this example, divide 30 by 50 to get 0.6.
Subtract the result from 1 to find the part of your grade accounted for by other assignments. In this example, subtract 0.6 from 1 to find the other assignments accounts for 0.4.
Multiply the portion of your grade accounted for by other assignments by your current grade in the class. In this example, if you had an 85 percent, multiply 85 by 0.4 to get 34.
Subtract the result from your desired grade after the midterm. For example, if you want to maintain at least an 80, subtract 34 from 80 to get 46.
Divide the result by the portion of your grade accounted for by your midterm to find the score you need on your midterm. In this example, divide 46 by 0.6 to find that you need to get at least a 76.67 percent on your midterm.
