Read through materials you received over the summer about middle school. This will help you get acquainted with teachers' names and classes. You may also want to determine what's for lunch on the first day -- consider packing a lunch if it's something you don't like. If your scheduled lunch is later in the day, pack a snack so you don't get hungry.
Prepare everything you need before the big day arrives. Organize your middle school supplies and pack them in your backpack. Decide what you're going to wear and lay it out the night before to save you time in the morning.
Get a good night's sleep. Set your alarm, but also let your parents know when you need to awaken in case you sleep through it. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep for adolescents 10 through 17.
Eat a hearty breakfast in the morning before your first day of middle school. Include some protein, such as eggs, so you will have energy to get through the day.
Pay attention to the instructions your middle school teachers give you and don't be distracted by kids who aren't paying attention. Don't be afraid to ask questions and write down things you want to remember, such as your locker combination.
Be friendly and smile. Find your friends and be brave and say "hi" to new kids. If you don't know the kids by your locker, introduce yourself because you will be seeing a lot of them this first day of middle school. As always, treat others the way you want to be treated.
