What is a split shift school day?

A split shift school day is a school schedule where the school day is divided into two or more non-consecutive blocks of time. There's a significant break in between the sessions, often several hours long. This is different from a typical school day where classes are run consecutively with short breaks between periods.

For example, a split shift might be:

* Morning Session: 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM

* Afternoon Session: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

The long break in between allows for things like:

* Transportation: To accommodate students who need to travel long distances or use multiple forms of transportation.

* Facility Use: To allow for shared use of school facilities by different groups, such as younger and older students or other community programs.

* Staffing: To allow teachers or other staff to teach multiple classes or take breaks.

Split shifts are less common than traditional schedules, and are often used as a temporary measure or in specific circumstances.
