In France, middle school is called "collège". It is the second stage of the French education system and lasts for four years, from the age of 11 to 15.

Collège follows primary school ("école primaire") and is followed by high school ("lycée"). During collège, students study a variety of subjects, including French, mathematics, science, history, geography, and foreign languages. They also participate in physical education, sports, and cultural activities.

At the end of collège, students take a national exam called the "Brevet des collèges". This exam tests their knowledge and skills in a variety of subjects and determines whether they can move on to high school.
