7th Grade Locker Decorating Ideas

For many kids entering 7th grade, particularly girls, the start of the new school year not only means finding the right first day of school outfit, it also means having a cool locker. While parents may remember having little more than a picture of their teen crush in their middle school lockers, modern locker decorating includes elaborate wallpapers, organizers and even lighting. With a little creativity, kids can create the lockers of their dreams.
  1. Wall Paper

    • The easiest way to cover the walls of your locker is to use magnetic locker wallpapers. These specialized magnets are built to fit into most standard lockers and come in a variety of colors and prints such as zebra and leopard. Magnetic wallpapers are available at most stores that sell school supplies such as Wal-Mart and Staples. Another way to cover the walls is to create your own wallpaper on card stock. Measure the locker wall and cut the card stock to the appropriate size. Create a different scene on each cut out, such as an ocean scene or a city skyline, and stick them to your locker walls using strong double-sided tape.

    Organization

    • Shelves not only add organization to your locker, they also add style. Choose locker shelving units in colors that match your wall paper. If you are very organized, make sure you choose a unit with several shelves for each subject, if possible. You should also attach small magnetic locker bins to the inside of your locker door to hold items such as pens, pencils and rulers. You can find many lockers bins with a variety of designs to match your overall locker theme.

    Lighting

    • In addition to making your locker stand out from the rest, lighting is a practical way to find items hiding in the back of your locker. The simplest way to add lighting to your locker is to tape a small book light in your locker with double-sided tape. You can also add battery-operated Christmas lights all around the top and back corners of your locker. If you want to get fancy, there are specialty motion-detecting miniature chandeliers made specifically for lockers available at most school supply stores that you can hang from the ceiling of your locker.

    Extra Touches

    • Jazz up your locker with a few more additions such as a mirror with a frame matching your locker and a magnetic dry-erase board to write notes and reminders. You can also post small pictures of a current teen star on the board. Finally, add a bright patch of shag carpeting to the floor of your locker that matches your wallpaper or theme, giving your locker the look of a comfortable mini apartment for your books and supplies.
