Middle School Locker Ideas

Middle school is a period of time in a child's life where anything can bruise them emotionally. According to the National Middle School Association, self-esteem is built and dependent on peers' reaction to life's situations, rather than adult influences. While there are many areas in school that students can congregate, a student's locker seems is a common place for students to hang out. What better way to build self worth among peers in daily life than to be confident and show off a great locker!
  1. Organizing Shelves

    • Middle-school students have many classes to attend. With many classes come many books. Students also have notebooks, folders and binders. If the locker is disorganized, students chance being late to class and embarrassed in front of their peers by spending too much time digging through the mess. If the student has shelving units in place, items can be organized in layers within the locker. The materials needed for morning classes can be on one shelf and afternoon class materials on another. It is a good idea to have an additional shelf in place for miscellaneous items, such as a hairbrush, makeup and other personal items that are not used for classes.

    Sturdy Mirror

    • Middle-school students are often self-conscious. They make several trips to the bathroom to check out their appearance. This is especially true for female students. One way to avoid these time-wasting trips is by inserting a sturdy mirror inside the locker. Safety should be considered when installing the mirror. Ensure the mirror was designed for locker use to prevent possible injuries should the mirror fall and break.

    Pitcures of Friends

    • Pictures are important at the middle-school stage in life. Students hand out pictures to everyone they know and collect them from others. A great place to display those pictures is inside the locker. Friends and family would appreciate seeing their picture hung in a prominent place. The student can feel proud and popular by showing off the number of pictures they have decorated their locker with.

    Magnets

    • There are many different types of magnets available to students for locker use. Students are free to express themselves with carefully selected magnets that contribute to the look of their locker. Students often choose brightly colored magnets with clever sayings or quotes from favorite actors printed on them. Students can personalize and feel confident with the look and organization of their lockers by using these items.
