Why literacy rate high among the males of India?

It's not necessarily true that the literacy rate is higher among males in India. In fact, according to the 2011 census, the literacy rate in India was 74.04% for males and 65.46% for females. While the literacy rate is higher among males, the gender gap in literacy has been narrowing over the years, with the female literacy rate increasing at a faster pace.
