Teachers can use a book illustrating sequence of events in conjunction with a puppet show. "The Little Red Hen" is one book to use to teach students sequence of events. In this book, the little red hen is making bread and asks for the aid of the other animals during each step of the bread process. The animals refuse to help and therefore they cannot eat the bread after it is all ready. The teacher should read the book to the students and then have the students create a puppet show, telling over the story in the correct order of the events.
Another book which promotes the learning of sequence of events is called "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." This book tells the story of a caterpillar and how he turned into a butterfly. The teacher can create picture cards by drawing them or printing out pictures from online sites. The cards should reflect the different steps that the caterpillar goes through. One card should be a picture of an egg on leaf. Another card should be the little caterpillar. The teacher should place the cards in a bag and hand it to the child to put in the correct order.
Ask the child to think about what he does in the morning. Write down the morning routine and discuss how each step is important. Create a picture puzzle out of paper, and glue it to a piece of cardboard to create a hard exterior. Each puzzle piece should have a picture of one morning activity. When the puzzle is put together it should comprise a whole morning routine. For example, one puzzle piece will be a picture of a girl putting on a shoe, another piece will be of a girl putting on her clothing and the last piece is a picture of her eating breakfast.
Felt boards have uses in the classroom. The student can take pictures that are made from felt and place them on the board to represent the set of events that take place in the story book "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." A student can also use the felt board to create his own story and sequence of events. After he is all done, he can share it will the class.
