Award Ideas for Kindergarten Graduations

Reward kindergartners for a job well done and a successful year with simple awards distributed to the entire class. Kindergarten graduations can be simple or elaborate affairs complete with miniature caps and gowns, but awards passed out at a ceremony of any kind will be treasured by graduating kindergartners.
  1. Diplomas

    • Make it official with a special diploma to award to each kindergartner at the end of the year. Call each child up to the front of the room and thank them for a wonderful year as you pass out a personalized diploma with her name, the school, and the year, signed by you and maybe even the principal. Use a template or create your own diploma and then roll it up and tie it with a ribbon to make it extra special.

    Yearbooks

    • Kindergartners and their parents will adore a yearbook as an award at the end of the year, especially when they look back to see the fun moments and read special inscriptions from their teacher and classmates. Work on the books through out the year, saving photographs of special moments and especially a photo of the entire class. Further personalize your awards by adding a special page for each child making note of their best moments throughout the year or including a copy of a great piece of work they completed. Bind copies of the book at an office supply shop or simply staple the pages together, but present the books in wrapping paper and ribbon as you thank kindergartners for a beautiful year. Give students time to sign their yearbooks and watch as they carefully place their awards into their backpacks to enjoy over the summer.

    Best Of...Award

    • Make each kindergartner feel like they are the best by adding a personalized note during diploma distribution or as an entirely separate ceremony. Create badges or certificates proclaiming each kindergartner to be the "Best in Class" in categories like art, listening, coloring, writing, attendance or athletics. Create an award for each and every kindergartner in your class so no one feels left out. In a classroom of competitive kindergartners, avoid singling out children in front of the class and send personalized awards home privately for the families to enjoy.

    Sweet Treats

    • Fill a treat bag with graduation-themed goodies for an award that kindergartners will be sure to savor. Fill your bag with peanut butter cup graduation caps by flipping a peanut butter cup over over and attaching a chocolate-covered square cookie to the bottom with peanut butter or frosting. Add a tassel fashioned out of fruit leather in your school's colors and wrap in plastic before placing into the bag. Use graduation themed cookie cutters to make cookies to add to the bags and don't forget a sweet note thanking the child for a wonderful year and highlighting favorite personal memories. Decorate the treat bags with a picture of you and the child together.
