How to Prepare an Annotated Bibliography for Kindergarten Books

The annotated bibliography is one where the bibliographical information of a book is presented along with a summary of the book. Kindergarten teachers, parents or school board officials may be interested in creating an annotated bibliography as a way to introduce their ideas for books to be used in the classroom. By preparing an annotated bibliography, aspiring educators can help ensure that their audience gets the wide-breadth of knowledge that is often required to make a decision about kindergarten reading material.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the sources for your bibliography. Consider the actual books for the kindergarten class or books about reading material for kindergarten classrooms. Carefully consider who your audience is and what type of sources they would most value in your annotated bibliography.

    • 2

Provide all of the necessary bibliographical information about each of the books you are including in your annotated bibliography. This will include the title, author, publication date and city, page numbers and media type. Write and format this section of the annotated bibliography, as you would any other bibliography.

    • 3

Arrange your bibliographical entries in the order in which they were written or in their alphabetical order -- depending on which your audience prefers. This will help keep your annotated bibliography looking organized and will allow your audience to focus on the books you have presented.

    • 4

Write a detailed summary of each book you have included in your bibliography. Give an explanation as to why you included each particular book, how the book can be used in the classroom and what valuable lessons it teaches to kindergartners. Include the summary for each book after the bibliographical entry.
