Bring the seasons inside the classroom by incorporating the changing weather and time of year with a classroom theme. School starts in the fall; therefore start your seasonal themes with the fall. Cut out a large tree trunk with several branches and hang it on the bulletin board. Hang small apples, with a student's name written on each apple, around the tree and on the ground next to the base of the trunk. The winter season can include mittens with each student's name and a life-size snowman on a wall. For spring, choose colors that are bright and cheery for flowers with each student's name.
Kindergarten is the beginning of a student's elementary education so create a classroom all about coming to school. Hang pictures around the room of each student and set up a wall with each student's name listed on a school bus. Most students cannot read before they enter kindergarten so label boxes and bins with photos and the name of what is inside to help students understand where materials belong. The welcome back theme can also be used after winter and spring breaks.
Welcome students to the jungle. Arrange a bulletin board with jungle-related pictures of animals, their names and some fun facts. Jungle animals typically have a roaring good time so set up a recognition wall for students to "roar" their good work; post the good work on the wall or simply write their name. The theme should also include an area full of picture books related to jungle animals for kids to look at and read.
Set students up to shoot for the moon with a galaxy theme. Place glow-in-the-dark stars or constellation arrangements on the ceiling for students to stare at during downtime. Fill a wall with black paper, cut out stars with silver paper and write each student's name on the stars. Hang photos of the moon, the first walk on the moon and fun facts about different planets around the room.
