Take a family trip to the zoo. It can be a great opportunity to build up biology skills. Children get the opportunity to observe various animal groups, including mammals, fish and reptiles. Read the proper scientific names of each animal to your child. Ask your child questions about the animals during the ride home.
Buy your child a chemistry set. They are designed to allow children to perform various chemistry experiments and observe their results. All of the experiments are designed to be educational and fun. Be sure that the experiments are conducted under an adult's supervision.
Look for a science center near your area. Science centers provide an exciting and interactive atmosphere in which children can get hands-on scientific experience. Many include exciting features like planetariums and IMAX theaters.
Purchase a microscope. Gather a small sample of freshwater from a pond or lake and have your child observe the water under the microscope. Encourage the child to draw pictures of the various micro-organisms he sees on the slide. Look online or in a biology book to see if he can identify them. Have him pluck a hair from his scalp and study it on the microscope.
Take your child on nature walks. Encourage her to observe her surroundings and ask plenty of questions. Bring a notebook to record any questions your child may have. When you get back home, research the answers together.
