Fund-raising can be a way for kids to have fun while providing a service to the community and earn money for other activities. One fun fund-raising activity is a car wash. Car washes require a minimal amount of equipment and experience, and allow youth to be outside during summer months. During periods when there are no cars to wash, kids can have water fights, play games and come up with creative ways to attract customers.
Another fund-raising possibility is a yard sale. Talking about old fads and rummaging through old toys and action figures can be fun way for youth to relate to one another.
Plan a sleep over party or "lock in." Youth love sleepovers because they allow the freedom to stay up as long as they wish with minimal parental supervision. Hold the sleepover at a recreation center, school, church or other large meeting space. If there are no readily available public spaces, a group leader can offer up his home as a place to have a sleepover. Another option is to go on a camping trip to state park. Campsites are usually very inexpensive to rent.
While going to a theme park can be a little pricey, larger groups can often arrange for discounted ticket prices. Parks allow youth to go off on their own in a safe and enclosed environment, and there is little chance of getting lost for long. Theme parks usually offer a wide variety of attractions, which will allow most kids to find something that they like to do. Arrange meeting places and meeting times for meals and leaving the park ahead of time. Depending on the age of the kids you may also wish to assign chaperones to accompany kids around the park.
