How to Be a Good Activity Leader

Some people are born with natural leadership skills, while others need to work to develop those skills. Those who are confident and can speak well in front of a large group make excellent activity leaders. With a little practice, anyone can become an activity leader, but this position demands the ability to organize and communicate effectively with those around you. Be open to other opinions, establish a set schedule and speak clearly to become a trusted activity leader.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice good communication techniques, both in front of your group or through the written word. Take the time to share your ideas clearly and explain directions. Open lines of communication when group members need to contact you outside of meetings or gatherings. Answer all emails and phone calls in a timely manner.

    • 2

Prepare a variety of activities for meetings, community events or volunteer efforts. Use good organizational techniques, and create your own organizational system. Do not double-book items that can be shared with others. Share all events on an accessible calendar to avoid confusion.

    • 3

Speak clearly and be a good listener. Everyone has ideas they wish to share when working in a group. Listen to what people have to say, and repeat ideas before giving feedback. You may wish to say: "Let me think about this before I answer you."

    • 4

Generate creative ideas that benefit all group members. For instance, assign tasks for everyone in the group, so that you not only have to do less work, but also make everyone feel included.
