Obtain practice questions from your child's school or teacher. Examples similar to actual standardized test questions should be available as teaching aids for students preparing for the exam.
Walk through each question with your child.
Target different parts of the test for individual tutoring sessions. For instance, spend a week working on reading comprehension questions, then the next week on math or word problems. Focusing sessions into specific areas will give your child time to work with and practice on similar test questions.
Find out if there are practice tests available for the exam your child will be facing. Many of the most common standardized tests, like the SAT, ACT and GRE, have practice exams that can serve as a test run before the real thing.
