Obtain an HESI study guide. By going over the material in the HESI study guide, you will have an understanding of what content will be on the exam.
Create a study group with people who are also taking the exam. Some learners work best when they are working and communicating with a group of people in the same situation as themselves. By working in a group, your group members may point out some areas that may be on the test that you overlooked, or help you come up with ways to remember certain details.
Go to a review session for the exam. Many universities and community colleges provide review sessions for students to feel more prepared. The sessions often contain information about important aspects you have learned during your nursing experience so far, and availability to answer any questions you may have.
Try taking or giving yourself practice exams. Some books are available for purchase which have disks with copies of practice HESI exams. You can also create practice exams of your own using your notes and study guide.
Make flashcards with questions on one side, and the answers on the back. The questions can be broad questions, or questions about small details. Go through the set of cards at least once a day by reading the question aloud, answering the question, then checking your answer on the back. Once you feel you are memorizing the questions, read the answer first, provide the appropriate question for that answer, and check your response on the question side of each card. Try reviewing the questions out loud.
