The Senior Project at Westtown School in Pennsylvania challenges students to take ownership and have a voice in their education. The focus of this project could be exploring a potential career, taking part in an extended community service project, or discovering a personal interest. Students are able to create experiences away from the classroom with a focus on personal growth and independence.
In the University of Montana's Experiential Learning Program, students work in business areas such as finance, accounting, management and computer applications. At the beginning of the semester, students will submit a proposal to a client, which details the scope of the work. At the end of the semester, students will give a final plan along with a business presentation to the client.
Jefferson Community Schools, in Port Townsend, Washington, offer students long-term experiential learning through outdoor activities and community service. Organized learning activities in the outdoors include camping trips, hiking, boating, and educational travel, which includes domestic and international destinations. In community services, students create and implement their own projects, along with participating in schoolwide projects that focus on stewardship activities.
San Francisco's Presidio Graduate School offers project and service learning in a system that merges academic learning and practical projects to real-life services. Students work on real business projects that relate to their field of study, which challenges them to apply what they have learned from classes. Invitations are extended to public, private and nonprofit organizations, and acceptance of a project is based on the student's needs.
