Boot Camps for Girls in Tennessee

Tennessee is not home to any boot camps for girls, but the state does have different schools and alternative education programs that are designed to help rehabilitate troubled youth. These schools provide students instruction in traditional subjects while emphasizing appropriate behavior and conduct.
  1. The Village

    • The Village was founded in 1986, and it is two campuses (one for boys and one for girls) are located in the Great Smoky Mountains, approximately 15 minutes from Knoxville, Tennessee. The Village is a psychiatric residential treatment facility that welcomes adolescents aged 13 to 17 who have mood disorders, emotional or social issues, alcohol or drug dependency and other problems. Both the boys' and girls' campuses have a state-certified private school that offers traditional high school courses so students can continue their educations while receiving treatment and therapy. The Village provides students with a respect for authority and for the community. Students are encouraged to develop physical, social and emotional well being and a strong moral character.

    Shenandoah Haven for Young Ladies

    • Shenandoah Haven for Young Ladies in Cleveland, Tennessee, is a private Christian academy for troubled teenage girls. The school is the female counterpart of the Shenandoah Ranch Academy, and it is an outreach of the Shenandoah Baptist Church. The school admits girls who have fallen behind in public school or who may have a history of behavioral problems. Students follow a normal high school curriculum, which is supplemented by daily devotions and Bible classes. The mission of the school is to rehabilitate girls through a program that combines education and spiritual instruction.

    White Plains Academy

    • White Plains Academy is located in Cookeville, Tennessee. It is an alternative school for students in kindergarten through grade 12 who have been expelled from public school. Most students at WPA have been dismissed from Putnam County School System, although the school enrolls students from other districts as well. Students at WPA are required to attend for a period of time determined by their school district, the Department of Children Services or whatever agency referred them. After completing the specified time at the school, students are normally authorized to return to public school. WPA follows a traditional curriculum, but enforces strict codes of behavior and conduct. Students at the school learn to behave appropriately toward teachers and classmates and to respect school and classroom policies.

    Everett Learning Opportunity Center

    • The Everett Learning Opportunity Center is an alternative school located in Maryville, Tennessee. Everett enrolls students in grades nine through 12 who have demonstrated social, academic or behavioral problems in the traditional classroom setting. Everett works with students to improve their behavior by instilling the values of personal responsibility, respect and discipline. Once enrolled, students normally complete their degrees at the school. Like most public high schools, Everett offers flexibility in the curriculum so that students can take coursework in preparation for college or for a professional career.
