Give students the chance to show their teacher how much they appreciate her by having them write a letter to their teacher about their favorite classroom memories or record their thoughts on video to create a class movie highlighting the teacher's impact. As student artwork is appreciated by many teachers, have each child design a special square for a quilt and ask a classroom parent to sew them together or create a scrapbook of student drawings focusing on special memories from the school year.
Host a special meal in honor of the teachers at your school. Ask a local business to cater the event or have parents bring in dishes for a potluck meal. Breakfast can be served before school starts or host a luncheon for the teachers while parent volunteers supervise the students. If you can not get the whole school involved, offer to bring your child's teacher lunch from her favorite restaurant during the week or present her with a gift card to a local dining establishment so she can enjoy a night out with family or friends.
Have students bring in small tokens of their appreciation throughout the week, such as an apple one day and flowers from each student to form a bouquet on another and a handwritten thank you card on a third day. For schools with limited funding, encourage families to donate school supplies, such as crayons, pencils, paper and tissues to the teacher for each day of the week so he does not have to spend his own money on these essentials.
Spend the week improving the school by planting bright flowers or doing yard work around the grounds. Ask your child's teacher what her favorite children's book is and donate a copy to the school or local library in her name. Host a free teacher car wash in the school parking lot. Visit local businesses and ask if they can donate items to the teachers at your school or if they can offer teachers a discount during teacher appreciation week.
