The Darul Uloom Al Madania Institute of Higher Islamic Learning is located on Sobieski Street in Buffalo, New York. The institute maintains separate academies for boys and girls. Darul Uloom Al Madania accepts female students as young as nine years old, though it only provides traditional American education through the 10th grade. For a high school diploma, students at Darul Uloom Al Madania must complete their final two years elsewhere. The school accepts new students annually.
In keeping with Islamic philosophy, the Darul Uloom Al Madania Institute maintains the belief that each human is unique in every way and should be treated accordingly. The mission of the school entails providing a strong academic education along with an excellent religious foundation designed to turn participants into charitable and generous members of the global Muslim community. The school's mission emphasizes the importance of learning the Sunnah, or habits, sayings and beliefs, of the Prophet Mohammed.
The girls' school at the Darul Uloom Al Madania Institute operates two curricula simultaneously, one academic and one religious. The academic education provided by the institute follows standard American middle school and high school education through the 10th grade, at which point participants graduate. The religious curriculum, known as the Alima Course, presents five years of study of Islamic law, the Hadith -- a report on the words and actions of Mohammed, and the text, historical, allegorical and religious interpretations of the Qur'an, as well as the proper meter and methods for reading the Holy Book aloud. Upon completion of the Alima, students receive a certificate of Islamic Scholarship.
The girls' school at Darul Uloom Al Madania Institute sits on approximately 100 acres of land. The school's dormitory, Darul-Rasheed, houses more than 100 students. Facilities include an indoor leisure hall, an outdoor recreational lawn, a large library serving both the boys' and girls' academies, a snack canteen and a cafeteria. A fully equipped kitchen serving appropriate food for Islamic students supplies the cafeteria. Darul Uloom Al Madania Institute maintains contracts with local facilities to which students go for field trips. The school grounds provide a home for the Masjid Zakariya, or central mosque. The mosque boasts over 20,000 square feet of space.
