Advantages of a Military Education

A military education holds many advantages. Students have the opportunity to develop character through the experiences and training offered at military schools. The quality of education is generally very high. Students also benefit from both military and physical training aimed at improving discipline and self-control. Finally, the community atmosphere at military schools offers students the opportunity to gain friends for life.
  1. Character Development

    • One of the main advantages of a military education is the impact it can have on a young person's character. Every military school emphasizes the importance of virtues such as integrity, responsibility, loyalty, honor and courage. The combination of physical and academic training provides students with an all-around experience. Life at military school requires students to be disciplined and punctual. This not only helps build character but also prepares them for life. Students are trained to become responsible citizens and future leaders.

    Quality of Education

    • Military schools are often misinterpreted as boot camps for troubled teenagers. This is far from the case. Academic excellence is often emphasized over physical and military training. Many military schools in their mission statements declare their aim to help students "succeed in the classroom and life." Most military schools are independent educational institutions that set high academic standards. Students also have the options of going to college or pursuing careers in the military after their military education.

    Physical and Military Training

    • An important aspect of life at military school is the physical and military training. Many military schools participate in the U.S. Army Junior Officer Training Corps program. Students can join the rifle team, drill team or color guard. They will participate in these activities on most afternoons. Students also benefit from sports, outdoor camps and field exercises. This teaches them survival skills, teamwork and leadership.

    Community Atmosphere

    • As many military schools are boarding schools, students tend to develop close bonds of friendship. The schedule is rigorous, and students live and learn together. Students are often organized into a Corps of Cadets and assigned to different companies. In most cases, living accommodations are organized according to the same structure. The atmosphere of a military school brings people together in a common experience for a common purpose. Students are supervised by staff who often participate in daily activities alongside them.
