Practice counting and number identification every day. Ask your child to count to 10, then higher numbers as he or she learns them. Hold up number flash cards in random order and get your child to identify them.
Use manipulative learning aids like magnetic and foam numbers. Keep them displayed in highly visible areas like the living room and kitchen. Children learn and retain information better if they have a tangible item to remind them.
Practice number recognition during other activities. Ask children to tell you the numbers they see on road and speed signs as you ride in the vehicle. Challenge your children to find and say the names of any numbers that they may see while you watch TV together.
Use online activities. The Internet has many interactive games your child can play from a home computer. Most of them are animated with sounds and music and give immediate feedback on results. Children count items, click on the correct number, as well as learn how to spell number names.
